Located east of Interstate 480 and south of Dodge Street is the community known as Park East. The area serves many purposes with commercial, retail and light industrial businesses along its northern perimeter. Interspersed are apartments and condos, many having been renovated. (Several serve the elderly with rents on an income based scale.) With its close proximity to downtown employment, Midtown Crossing, and moderate prices, the area has become a hot market for renters and condo owners on a tight budget.
The arts and education are also readily available to citizens living in the northern section of the community. Joslyn Art Museum and Central High School, considered by many to be OPS’ premier high school, are within walking distance, as are the Rose Theater and the Omaha Children’s Museum. The Holland Performing Arts Center, the Orpheum Theater, the Century Link Center, and T-D Ameritrade Park are only a short drive away.
Single family dwellings and apartment conversions are found in many of the community’s other areas. Prices, styles, and sizes vary greatly within the region with demographics including singles, empty nesters, and families. Along the south section’s major streets, you will also find retail, commercial and light industrial outlets. The Park East Neighborhood Association works hard to inform Park East’s citizens of proposals and changes in city government and to coordinate activities within all facets of community life. Their motto, “To build a strong neighborhood through beautification, preservation and networking” is simple but proving to be effective.
